Newmason Helps Turn ‘Digidale’ Vision into Reality

Newmason Properties has pledged more than £2.1 million to help make Shipley a more beautiful place to live, work and play.

The Bradford based property developer is investing in housing, the transport network and recreation facilities in support of the 2020 ‘Digidale’ masterplan vision to create high quality homes, a thriving digital economy and an improved environment in Airedale.

Director Alec Newsham said: “We want to see Shipley flourish and we are only too pleased to do our bit to further improve the quality of life in what is already a lovely place to live.”

Newmason Properties has started the £60m conversion of 130-year-old Victoria Mills, on the banks of the River Aire, into more than 400 luxury apartments with concierge facilities, private parking, CCTV security and a gymnasium.

The extra £2.1m has been pledged as part of a Section 106 agreement linked to planning permission for the Victoria Mills project.

£2m will be spent on providing affordable housing in Shipley, with £160,000 going towards strengthening existing pedestrian and transport links between Saltaire and Shipley.

A further £60,000 will bolster a project to restore and improve recreation facilities at Roberts Park, Saltaire.

Coun Simon Cooke, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration said: The money pledged by Newmason Properties is the largest contribution of its kind ever made by a Bradford developer. We are delighted at the help and interest they have shown in creating a new improved Airedale for the 21st century.”

The futuristic new build aspect of the Victoria Mills development, featuring towers with domed roofs, will be constructed in the same traditional quality materials as the existing textile mill, to complement the original buildings and ensure longevity.

Inside, the craftsman-built apartments will feature exposed brickwork, original stone, timbers and pillars, oak floors, an abundance of copper and iron, and a very high specification on fixtures and fittings.

Some apartments will have their own roof gardens, some will have basement office space for working from home and all will have the latest Cat 5, Blue Tooth and intranet technology.

Coun Cooke, said: “The Victoria Mills development is very impressive and successfully combines local heritage with the best in contemporary design – exactly the style of living we want to promote in the area.”

A derelict brownfield site next to Victoria Mills is also being cleaned up and transformed by Newmason Properties into a stunning curved steel and glass private multi-storey car park, with a glass elevator, underground tunnels and basement parking.
